Paulding County

Paulding County, once a part of Cherokee County, was created on December 3, 1832 by an act of the Georgia General Assembly. It was named after John Paulding who was famous for capturing a British spy, Major John Andre’, in 1780 during the American Revolution. As of the 2010 census, the county’s population topped 142,000 and it is considered part of the Atlanta metropolitan area. The largest city of the county is Dallas and it is also the county seat. Paulding County was ranked as 7th in population growth in the US and is the 2nd fastest growing county in Georgia and the Metro Atlanta area.

The reasons for the growth can be credited to the beautiful, scenic land that sits in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains and the charming, Southern people who call it home. It is a perfect place to enjoy the outdoors with a litany of parks such as White Oak Park, Burnt Hickory Park, and Ben Hill Stickland Park, which offers great areas for families to picnic and enjoy outdoor activities. The famed Silver Comet Trail also runs through Paulding County and is a great, safe way to enjoy family biking in a safe area set aside just for that purpose. Paulding County has also experienced the growth of many subdivisions that offer the feel of country living with the close proximity of in town shopping and business. These subdivisions have fueled the population growth of the county as families have headed north from the Atlanta suburbs to escape the dense traffic and congestion of the downtown areas to enjoy the relaxed life style Paulding County offers.

The simpler life of the small towns and cities of the south are on display in cities such as Dallas and Hiram. Both offer such delights as small, community theater, local holiday festivities and parades, as well as historical landmarks steeped with rich, southern history. The Tallapoosa River, many creeks and up to 38 lakes in the county are perfect for fishing and anglers can expect to catch anything from catfish to trout to bass. These areas are also great for canoeing, kayaking and camping. There are also great golf course such as Bentwater, Creekside Golf and Country Club and The Frog at the Georgian Resort for those who enjoy hitting the links.

Once you visit Paulding County, it is easy to see why this county is growing at the pace it is. The friendly nature of its residence and the down home country life style of its community lend itself to the feel of true Southern living. Come make Paulding County your place to live, grow and succeed!
