Another beautiful, south Georgia secret is the city of Tifton. The seat of Tift county, Tifton was founded in the mid 1800’s by Captain Henry Harding Tift when he moved there from Mystic, Connecticut to harvest timber for the family shipbuilding business. Tifton grew from a dirt road town out of the woods of southern Georgia, to wonderful community with a renovated, historic downtown as well as modern shopping and business areas.

The suburbs of Tifton are a perfect place to raise a family and enjoy a close knit community. With activities ranging from outdoor concerts, performing art shows at the Tift Theatre for Performing Arts, to golf on many of the surrounding courses, or even an educational trip to Georgia Agrirama, there is never a lack of family themed entertainment and fun.

Businesses thrive in Tifton and Tifton loves their business owners. With highway access and an easy block system layout, Tifton is awash in local businesses that succeed and continue to grow annually. The city and the DDA work hard to promote the revitalization of the central downtown business district. This has included the remodeling of many historic buildings in downtown including the famous Myon Hotel and The Tift Theatre. Hours could be spent describing the beautiful architecture on display in this lovely city.

Tifton, often called by its’ residents, “the friendly city,” proves that south Georgia is a great place to live, work, and play.
